Network Engineer II

Location: Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, Remote US

Compensation: $91,000 - $115,000 / year, Final salary will be decided within the posted range commensurate with experience.

In fact, this focus often means Visionary offers the service with the customer in mind and financial benefit as a distant second.

 

Visionary Broadband seeks a qualified individual to fill the role of Network Engineer IIThis full-time position will join the team at Visionary Broadband, one of the top internet service providers in the Rocky Mountain region. 

 

 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Network Design and Architecture:
    • Collaborate within a team to plan network growth and advancement as well as new network additions.
    • Continued network advancement in existing architectures supporting various functions for redundancy, security, and customer management.
    • Project ownership with team collaboration to provide effective efforts planning and bringing project success to completion.
  2. Network Implementation:
    • Configure and deploy new network devices according to the approved designs and documentation.
    • Upgrade and verify network functions on existing devices including services, protocols, and applications.
    • Design and implement architecture and customer management advancements across multiple systems.
  3. Network Maintenance and Monitoring:
    • Perform regular maintenance tasks like firmware upgrades, patches, and security updates.
    • Monitor network performance, usage, and security to identify and resolve any issues or potential threats.
  4. Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution:
    • Diagnose and resolve network-related problems, including connectivity issues, outages, and performance bottlenecks.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors to address complex network problems.
    • Provide escalation assistance to troubleshoot and resolve network issues and support needs.
  5. Security and Compliance:
    • Implement security measures to safeguard the network from cyber threats and attacks.
    • Collaborate within a team structure to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to network security and privacy.
  6. Capacity Planning and Scalability:
    • Provide network capacity planning as needed for continued network growth and stability.
    • Evaluate and share network protocol advancements to benefit network and user experience.
  7. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of network configurations, diagrams, and processes.
    • Generate regular reports on network performance, incidents, and upgrades for Network Engineering or Management reviews.
  8. Emerging Technologies and Trends:
    • Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in networking.
    • Provide technical recommendations and methods to enhance network efficiency and performance.
    • Evaluate many types of network equipment, such as routers, switches, firewalls, and other necessary hardware.
  9. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Project Management, Network Support and Administration, Sales Engineering, and Field Service Operations, to ensure seamless service delivery.
  10. On-Call Rotation:
    • Participate in a scheduled on-call rotation to provide after-hours support for critical network issues. Respond promptly to incidents, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.

 

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years applicable experience in network engineering or IT infrastructure.
  • Prior experience with service providers is highly preferred.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (equivalent experience may be considered).
  • Real passion for networking and a strong sense of self-motivation.
  • Strong desire to contribute to a collaborative and harmonious team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for issue documentation and peer collaboration.
  • Proficient in using drawing software (e.g., Visio, Lucidchart) to create accurate network diagrams.
  • Solid understanding of the OSI reference model and its practical applications.
  • Skilled in diagnosing and resolving technical network issues both onsite and remotely.
  • Proficient in interpreting data from network monitoring tools and systems.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities in dynamic environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of IPv4 and IPv6 Routing in service provider networks.
  • Strong command of network protocols including MPLS, PPPoE, DHCP, OSPF, IS-IS, and BGP.
  • Industry certifications such as CCNA or JNCIA or higher are preferred (or active pursuit thereof).
