The Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Department of Social Services is seeking to hire a Benefit Programs Supervisor to help individuals and families in Chesterfield County and Colonial Heights navigate Benefit Programs such as SNAP, TANF, and Medicaid while providing excellent customer service.
What You Do and How You Do It:
The Benefit Programs Supervisor coaches and trains staff to achieve performance excellence in customer service and benefit eligibility determination. This includes equipping staff with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate complex program policies and procedures. You will also be a change agent, adept at managing change and facilitating the adjustments needed for the team to seamlessly embrace new practices and benefit program policies.
Beyond personnel management, the Benefit Programs Supervisor is crucial in operational efficiency. You will help to develop efficient workflows for ongoing program development/caseload management, constantly seeking ways to optimize processes and enhance productivity. Program effectiveness is rigorously monitored through the review and evaluation of data, utilizing various program evaluation methods to identify areas for improvement and ensure desired outcomes are met. You will need to be able to handle complex and challenging cases, making informed decisions on difficult and unusual situations that require specialized expertise. It will be your responsibility to serve as a vital liaison to other agencies and workgroups, fostering collaboration and ensuring seamless coordination across different entities. Furthermore, you are responsible for monitoring the expenditures of the unit's programs, ensuring fiscal responsibility and adherence to budget allocations.
In times of crisis, the Benefit Programs Supervisor’s leadership extends to managing an Emergency Shelter Team during natural disasters, reporting to shelter duty as required to provide essential support and services to affected individuals. This role will also perform other duties as required to support the overall mission and objectives of the department.

Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
A Chesterfield County application is also required and must be submitted online by the deadline. This position manages a team as part of an Emergency Shelter during times of natural disaster, reporting to shelter duty as required.
