Position Summary:

The Cypress of Charlotte is recruiting for a hospitality focused Activities Assistant to join our Health Center team! This position is responsible for ensuring that activities are provided according to established standards, policies, and state and federal regulations using exemplary customer service to enhance the quality of life of Stewart Health Center residents.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and conducts large and small group activities to include but not limited to; music, church groups, bingo, exercise, wine and cheese parties, formal teas, birthday parties, reminiscence, crafts, cooking, Wii programs, educational programs, computer applications including e-mail and SKYPE, planned outings, special programs, events, pet visits, garden groups, and other evening and/or weekend groups. 
  • Prepares and conducts one-to-one and/or bedside activities to include but not limited to soft hands, sensory stimulation, reading mail/books/magazines, and writing communications.
  • Prepare and perform holiday celebrations for religious and non-religious occasions.
  • Maintains current knowledge of trends in recreation and activity fields including acquiring CEUs through attending seminars, workshops, and conferences in working towards and maintaining NCCAP Certification.
  • Communicates information to Activities Director for care plan meetings and other meetings as required.
  • Coordinates services with other departments and involves other departments in activities as applicable.
  • Decorates appropriately for holiday functions and special events.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations as they relate to activity programming within a skilled nursing facility.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of six months’ similar work experience required; prefer 3 years experience in skilled nursing/memory care or similar field.
  • Must be or be able to become eligible for NCCAP Certification at the Activity Assistant Level within 1 year.
  • Ability to coordinate activities for both individual and group duties.
  • Creative programming skills. 
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint applications.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate, read, write, and follow oral and written instructions in English.
