What you'll do

The Narrowband Field Applications Engineer will provide customer, production, and engineering support for both US and foreign government systems, including hubs, remote terminals, and COTS equipment. This support will include a mixture of remote and onsite support. 


The day-to-day

As a team member your remote support duty is to support the operation of the networks. Examples include (but are not limited to) initial system installation, configuration, and resolution of system problems. We interface remotely with customers and other Viasat groups via phone and email to provide issue resolution and answer customer questions. This support is 24/7 and requires each Field Applications Engineer to participate in an on-call rotation.

 

Standard on-site support duties include CONUS and OCONUS installations, testing, training, and maintenance of all locations. This includes hardware, networking, and RF component maintenance and repair, software test and integration, as well as routine maintenance and configuration changes. Disciplines requiring support include software, hardware, electrical, IP networking, configuration management, IA, and technical publications. This position is needed for supporting both current and future UHF DAMA and IW system customers within the services group. 

 

Key responsibilities include supporting deployment, testing, documentation, training, operation, maintenance, and solving problems with UHF DAMA and IW Networks. We work successfully with both internal and external personnel with various skills.  Responsibilities include:

  • Interacting with customers on issue resolutions
  • Analyze system issues and perform corrective actions
  • Perform On-Site maintenance at each site as needed
  • Conduct training at various CONUS and OCONUS sites
  • Design and update training and operator manuals for customer usage
  • Perform maintenance and software updates
  • Software testing and integration

What you'll need

  • 4+ years' experience with SATCOM TDMA theory, RF, Antennas, test methods
  • Proven experience operating spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes and multi-meters
  • Demonstrated experience developing technical user documentation
  • Validated experience delivering Technical Training
  • Verified experience resolving issues with SATCOM networks and terminals as well as IP/Networking 
  • Associates degree in a technical subject area or equivalent experience
  • US government position. US Citizenship required
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance or ability to obtain when administratively feasible (interim clearance must be granted prior to start date)
  • Ability to work an on-call rotation
  • Ability to travel 50% both CONUS and OCONUS 

What will help you on the job

  • Experience with UHF DAMA and IW SATCOM systems/Network Operations
  • Experience with SATCOM Network Operations
  • Solid understanding of military standards and cryptographic baseband equipment (such as KY-100M, KY-99, KIV-7M)
  • Demonstrated experience operating and troubleshooting SATCOM hubs and system issues, terminals, and IP network equipment
  • Experience with Customer Service and Ticketing Systems (like SalesForce).
  • Prior Military background

Salary range

$91,000.00 - $144,000.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $110,000.00- $165,000.00/ annually
