What you'll do

We have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Engineer to join our  Viasat Global Networks - Operations team! We are looking for someone who is eager to contribute to a small, fast-paced team. You will help design/construct automated Specialized Test Equipment (STE) including wiring diagrams, interface PWA schematics, and related documentation. You will work with electrical, mechanical, system, software, and test engineers on a variety of projects, supporting both new developments and sustaining engineering.


The day-to-day

  • Create Interconnect drawings in SolidWorks Electrical including component selection and cabling to satisfy project requirements
  • Design of cables to satisfy project requirements
  • Select RF components and perform RF measurements to validate your designs
  • Selection of test equipment including trade studies
  • Configuring first-build STEs including cabling, software/test equipment installation & configuration, and creating redlines/as-built documentation
  • Design/test interface PWAs, including schematic capture, parts selection, PWB layout review, and first article DVT
  • Support remote engineers/software developers in their use of on-site STE
  • Creating/repairing lab test cables

What you'll need

  • Bachelor's degree in EE, a related field or equivalent years of experience.
  • 2+ years of Electrical and Mechanical aptitude/technical skills
  • Knowledge of proper tool and test equipment usage such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, and network analyzers
  • Practical experience in cable design/build, electrical standards, and interface technologies/standards
  • Attention to detail
  • Must be flexible in task completion based on shifting priorities
  • Operates with a sense of urgency while maintaining quality control
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Color vision for electronics products that include color-coded wiring
  • US citizenship is required
  • Must be able to work onsite in the Carlsbad, CA or Tempe, AZ office 

What will help you on the job

  • Sufficient experience using Microsoft Office programs
  • Experience using Oracle Agile PLM System, JAMA, and Jira
  • Experience with DxDesigner, SolidWorks Electrical, or similar programs
  • Knowledge of PWB layout concepts
  • Knowledge of various connectors, interface standards, and cable construction processes

Salary range

$96,000.00 - $151,000.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $115,500.00- $173,500.00/ annually
