Software should be beautiful. Variant is code generation with creativity and taste. Instead of a confined conversation, you can generate endless designs from a single idea. Freely explore, discover directions you wouldn’t have thought of, and build better software as a result. We're well-capitalized and looking for a founding engineer to own the front end of Variant. The ideal candidate has done impactful work at a company known for its front end and design, majorly contributed to a notable open-source project, or has a seriously impressive portfolio. They work with modern frameworks like React, Next, Svelte, etc., deeply understand the DOM and the browser, and ship performant, pixel-perfect components. This role requires someone who knows that building a startup is really hard work and is fully committed, doesn’t compromise between quality and shipping fast, sees what needs to be done and does it, and knows when to be outspoken or disagree and commit. This will be the most meaningful work of your career.
We work from a beautiful space in San Francisco where we dream up the future and make it real together. We’re well-capitalized and backed by notable investors. If you've built things you're proud of, we'd love to see them. This role is for a Senior II or Staff-level engineer with a background in early-stage startups (Seed or Series A), founders of YC startups, or large companies with demanding, startup-like cultures (e.g., Cruise, xAI). We are looking for T-shaped individuals with deep expertise in one area but who can effectively contribute outside that specialty, and who have zero-to-one experience, having built at least one product end-to-end from scratch, solving open-ended and difficult technical problems. Candidates should value large scope, learning, and moving at a fast pace, and prefer IC scope over management, while showing capacity for rapid growth.
