Job Description

Are you ready to lead performance in a highly automated, day‑shift operation?

Are you driven to lead technical teams and turn performance data into operational excellence? Do you thrive at the heart of operations, working closely with customers while driving continuous improvement in complex automated environments? And are you comfortable balancing people leadership, KPI ownership, and stakeholder management? Then this Maintenance Manager role could be your next career step so read on and apply!

What will you be doing?

Picture yourself arriving on site early in the morning. As the automated handling system powers up, performance dashboards display yesterday’s results, open maintenance actions, and today’s priorities. Before the technicians begin their shifts, you set the tone for the day — aligning on safety, system availability, and KPI focus areas. You know where attention is required, because you translate contract KPIs into clear, actionable priorities.

Throughout the day, you actively steer performance. You analyze trends, assess risks, and discuss improvement opportunities with the customer’s operations team. You ensure maintenance activities are executed safely, efficiently, and with minimal operational impact. When incidents occur, you lead with composure and clarity, coordinating technicians, subcontractors, and Vanderlande support functions to restore performance and capture learnings.

You are not just managing maintenance operations — you are managing a long‑term partnership. By transparently presenting KPI results, proposing improvement initiatives, and aligning next steps, you continuously strengthen customer trust. At the same time, you coach and develop your team, ensuring that every day the system performs better than the day before.

Responsibilities

As Maintenance Manager, you are fully responsible for the end‑to‑end maintenance performance of the automated handling system on site.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Leading, coaching, and developing the site‑based maintenance team, including onboarding, performance management, and retention

  • Managing and governing the performance‑based service contract, translating contractual KPIs into daily priorities and clear team objectives

  • Monitoring performance data, identifying gaps, and driving continuous improvement initiatives based on root‑cause analysis

  • Acting as the primary operational and technical interface for the customer and the Vanderlande Global Service Desk

  • Preparing, presenting, and aligning KPI results, improvement plans, and next steps with customer management

  • Ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient execution of all maintenance activities while actively promoting a strong HSE culture

  • Leading escalation management during major or prolonged incidents and coordinating internal teams, subcontractors, and external partners

  • Overseeing maintenance administration, including spare parts management, tooling, CMMS accuracy, and basic financial and contractual support

  • Representing Vanderlande on site as a reliable, professional, and trusted long‑term partner

What do we ask from you?

  • A Bachelor (HBO) degree in a technical field such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Logistics Engineering

  • At least 5 years of technical experience (electrical and/or mechanical), with a minimum of 3 years in a management or team‑lead role

  • Strong people‑management skills, with the ability to translate strategy and KPIs into daily operational actions

  • Proven troubleshooting experience in mechanical, electromechanical, and control/PLC systems

  • Strong analytical skills with a performance‑driven, continuous‑improvement mindset

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills, including the ability to act diplomatically with customer management

  • Strong communication skills in both Dutch and English

  • Solid HSE knowledge and a clear safety‑first mentality

  • A proactive, pragmatic, flexible, and improvement‑driven personality

  • Experience with large‑scale automated systems is a strong advantage
