Pay Grade
The Dietary Clerk is responsible to receive and process all patient diet orders while maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures for safety, sanitation, and infection control.
Responsibilities and Duties
Follows computer and printer procedures for diet order communications to ensure diets are ordered correctly.
Receives incoming telephone calls and identifies department and computing message sheet as appropriate. Writes telephone slips and supply requisitions according to established procedures. Communicates accurately any pertinent information to the Clinical Dietitian about the patients’ diet needs, questions and other information learned from answering phone.
Keeps CBORD card file up to date with patient’s current diet order.
Follows established procedures to organize appropriate patient marked menus in correct order before meal service times (3 times daily) for specified patient care areas.
Keeps work area neat, clean and organized.
Checks modified diet menus under supervision of Clinical Dietitian or Supervisor as needed. Charges via the computer for patient tube feedings according to established procedures. Assists with training staff for Dietary Clerk position as needed on assigned.
Follows rules for safety consistently. Knows and can state correct fire safety procedure. Practices good personal hygiene and dresses appropriately each day
Communicates effectively with nursing personnel and other Nutrition Services staff as appropriate.
Completes required in-services on schedule.
Will fill in as Hospitality Associate as needed.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Qualifications
Must be 16 years of age.
Ability to do mathematical computation and record keeping.
On-the-Job training.
Legible handwriting skills needed.
Basic knowledge of computers.
Good communication skills.
