Overview

This position will be physically located in The Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP 

 

The Speech Language Pathologist works with speech, language and/or hearing disorders of identified students so affected need not be handicapped in their educational and vocational goals.


Responsibilities

This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company.

  • Essential Functions
    • Identifies communication disorders.
    • Plans and conducts therapeutic programs.
    • Provides consultative services to others as needed.
    • Develops and maintains data recording and evaluation systems.
    • Plans and conducts parent conferences.
    • Coordinates therapy with classroom and home activities.
    • Develops therapeutic processes that will effect needed change.
    • Evaluates outcome of process and determines further needs.
    • Participates in Multidisciplinary Assessment Teams.
  • The SLP is responsible for implementing the school’s instructional program for Grades K through 12.
    • Maintains a instructional/therapeutic environment conducive to learning.
    • Establishes a daily plan following therapeutic guidelines and adopted standards; prepares necessary materials; implements plan.
    • Maintains student discipline and fosters positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
    • Utilizes motivational tools and information technology to stimulate students.
    • Maintains communication concerning individual progress with parents and school administration.
    • Refers students for specialized help as required.
    • Contributes to curriculum development and revision as relates to individual intervention plans.
    • Must participate in professional development activities as necessary to maintain licensure.
    • Annually, at a minimum, update classroom teachers of the IEP requirements and/or changes
    • Instruction in the classroom will be commensurate with the school’s stated philosophy, objectives and purposes.
    • Cognizant of all rules and regulations in school handbooks.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    • Human relation skills of the highest order are required to meet the needs of a diverse population.
    • Requires initiative, perception and a broad knowledge of human behavior to understand the learning style of the individual students.
    • Requires solid pedagogy in regards to diagnosis, and assessment.
    • Requires general knowledge and understanding of computers and software used in the school and/or ability to learn quickly.
    • Understands safety requirements for students using online services.
    • Position requires moderate lifting and bending.
    • Required to monitor students indoors and sometimes outdoors in a hot and humid climate.
    • Ability to keep up with children ages 5-12 years of age on a playground.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Requirements
    • Zero (0) to two (2) years’ experience teaching in an accredited school system.
    • M.A. or M.S in Speech Language Pathology degree from an accredited institution.
    • Current ESA certification as SLP/Audiologist in one of the 50 United States for grades P-12.
    • Must have ability to obtain and maintain a Child Care National Agency Check (CNACI) clearance requiring US Citizenship or Permanent Residency.
    • Must have ability to obtain passport or Current Passport must have at least nine (9) months validity prior to expiration
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience of three (3) years serving as an SLP in an accredited school system preferred
    • Additional endorsement to augment major certification area is desired.
  • Working Conditions:
    • The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
    • Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
    • Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
