Overview

This position will be physically located in The Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP 

 

Under the supervision of the Port Engineer, the QMED performs major and specialized mechanical overhaul and repair on gasoline and diesel marine engines and related marine equipment using schematics, technical drawings, and OEM Manuals.


Responsibilities

This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company.

  • Operates and maintains electrohydraulic controllable pit propeller systems and steering engines, AC&R systems, air compressors, desalinization systems and auxiliary boilers.
  • Performs testing on marine engines and equipment, determining repair needs or adjustments and aligns fuel, water and air piping systems.
  • Oversees the operations of engines.
  • Cleans and maintains engines and corresponding vessel parts to include propellers, gear and compressors.
  • Performs all other duties inherent to the role.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education if the degree is required.
    • High school diploma
  • Preferred: Associated Degree in related field or equivalent military experience as an Enginemen
  • Certifications:
    • USCG QMED Endorsement
    • USCG First Aid/CPR Certification
    • Possess valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
    • TWIC, Transportation Work Identification Credentials required
  • Experience:
    • Three (3) years of experience on vessels in the engine room
  • Preferred skills:
    • Must also be able to communicate well as part of a small team and work cooperatively with other colleagues.
    • Ability to handle multiple projects and details simultaneously.
    • Results orientated with ability to plan and deliver against project deadlines.
    • Resilient, self-motivated, and able to work well under pressure.
    • Ability to deal with problems and implement effective solutions.
    • Flexibility to work varying shifts and time schedules as needed.
    • Ability to successfully pass any background checks, pre-employment physical requirements and drug testing required by the contract
  • Skills:
    • Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and storage requirements to meet compatibility of products based on hazard class is required.
    • Strong interpersonal skills are required.
    • Ability to exercise discretion and good judgement is required.
    • Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy is required.
    • Advance ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in written form is required.
    • High-level organizational and planning skills, so that workflow is managed and accurate is required.
  • Working Conditions:
    • Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, wet, tropical environment with average temperatures of 130 degrees in the summer months).
    • Must work frequently in close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, man holes, small enclosed rooms, small sewage and line pipes, and other areas that could cause claustrophobia.
    • Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
    • Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.
    • Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
    • Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
