JOB SUMMARY
Works under general direction to provide responsible and skilled technical assistance in performing assignments requiring experience and good knowledge of techniques and practices related to particular field of medical and scientific research. 

This is a full-time research assistant position to support the research activities in the Preclinical Nuclear Imaging Laboratory of Radiology on developing imaging probes for early detection of biological abnormalities (e.g., cancer, diabetes, infection, and CNS diseases, etc.) using small animal models (mice and rats). 

Ideal candidates will have a BS or MS degree in Bioengineering or Physical Sciences, and must be willing to work with medical radioisotopes and lab animals in a multidisciplinary environment. Prior experience with molecular imaging techniques and/or lab animal handling is a plus, but not required.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Required

  • Education
    Master's Degree with major coursework in field of assignment and no experience required or 
    Bachelor's Degree with major coursework in field of assignment or 
    Completion of 2 years of college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment or 
    High School Diploma or GED equivalent 
     
  • Experience
    1 year Research experience at level of Research Technician or equivalent with Bachelor's degree or 
    4 years Research experience including two years at level of Research Technician or equivalent with 2 years of college or 
    6 years Research experience with High School Diploma or GED equivalent including 
    2 years at level of Research Technician or equivalent. 
     


JOB DUTIES

  • Performs more difficult scientific and medical research work in science area such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field.
  • Constructs, assembles, and operates laboratory equipment and apparatus.
  • Records and evaluates data obtained from work assignments for use in scientific papers.
  • Collaborates with supervisor or other research personnel in preparation of scientific papers for publication.
  • Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning procedures and implementation.
  • Collects and organizes research data for project reports.
  • May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of Research Technicians or other laboratory personnel of lower grade.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
