Get to Know Your Team: 

  • UT Health East Texas EMS/AIR 1 has more than 65 ambulances, three active helicopters and one helicopter in reserve strategically located across the region and emergency teams provide rapid access to care.

Responsibilities

  • Administers care to patient population which ranges from neonates to geriatrics.
  • Works cooperatively and interdependently with emergency, prehospital, law enforcement, and ancillary personnel while coordinating the emergent and critical care of patients requiring helicopter transportation.
  • Markets the Air 1 program and serves as a representative of the department as well as the UT Health East Texas System when involved with a public relations activity and/or marketing activity.
  • Understands and supports the UT Health East Texas Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Adheres to all hospital policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • At least three years prehospital experience in a lead paramedic role. 
  • Texas EMT-P certification.
  • National Registry EMT-P (NREMT-P).
  • BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.

  • Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS) required or obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • Certified Flight Paramedic Credential (FP-C) within 2 years of employment. If the crew member is an RN working in the Paramedic role the CFRN will take the place of the required certification.
  • PALS required or obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • NRP required or obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • ACLS required or obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • Ability to operate critical care equipment (i.e., monitors, pumps, ventilators).
  • Must possess standard critical care skills commensurate with the flight nursing profession.
  • Must become proficient in the operation of VHF and 800 System radio equipment.
  • Must become proficient in the use of the Global Positioning System.
  • The ability to make major and critical decisions in the absence of medical and/or supervisory direction.
  • Comply with regulatory requirements, guidelines, and policies.

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Previous flight paramedic experience.
