The Role

Deliver the National Officiating Strategic Plan within the Sections. The focus will be on recruitment, retention, training, and education initiatives to develop officials who are passionate about improving the consumer experience across all levels of tennis. Applicants should live within the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest or Northern Sections.  TEMP POSITION THROUGH DECEMBER 31, 2026

  • Collaborate with National and Section staff and volunteers to define and deliver the Section’s plan for promoting, recruiting, developing and supporting officials with a strong emphasis on diversity and inclusion.
  • Collaborate with National staff on the development of marketing, promotional and other collateral material to support recruitment and retention initiatives.
  • Build strong relationships with various stakeholders from the Section’s Officiating community to ensure all officials have an equal opportunity for recruitment, assignments and development within the Sections.
  • Develop a strong, positive working relationship with the Section’s Chairpersons and the Section Officiating Committees.
  • Develop and implement plans, in line with the National Strategic Recruitment Plan, for the retention of current officials and growth of new officials at the Sections and local level.
  • Quickly identify a new official’s barrier for entry and develop plans to minimize or eradicate those barriers.
  • Understand the Youth Pathway implementation plans for the Net Generation Circuit and USTA Competitive Structure and implement officiating alignment plans to ensure an enhanced consumer experience.
  • Develop a program that promotes the use of Court Captain through Net Generation Circuit events.
  • Promote the use of technology to better serve Providers and Officials.
  • Promote National Officiating Mentoring Program to the Section Officials and assist in implementing strategies to grow and sustain program participants.
  • Conduct a needs analysis of the Sections/Regions Officiating requirements, in collaboration with Section staff, and strategically plan and coordinate Officiating In-person workshops throughout the Sections/Region.
  • Be an active participant in the planning, development, and delivery of the Community Officiating Evaluation Program within Sections/Region.
  • Work with National and Section staff to develop educational material, seminars, and webinars to educate the local tennis ecosystem on the ITF Rules of Tennis and USTA Regulations.

Travel

  • There will be occasional travel to the National Campus, Orlando, FL
  • There will be extensive travel within the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest and Northen Sections to attend officiating workshops, recruitment events and tennis tournaments.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, ideally in a field that relates to sports management and/or business development
  • Recruiting experience is desired
  • A proven track record of building strong relationships and navigating long standing traditions, policies and practices
  • A proven self-starter who can work remotely
  • Excellent time management skills to manage workload
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills
  • Ability to plan strategically and implement those plans
  • Exceptional interpersonal qualities and effective oral, written, presentation and listening communication skills to effectively represent officiating and the USTA throughout the Section.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the game and rules of tennis.
  • Flexibility – some weekend work and travel will be compulsory as part of this role.
  • Coaching/mentoring experience.
  • Local Candidates Preferred

The expected salary is 2,400 to $2,500 biweekly. Any additional pay or benefits a person may qualify for, are not included in this range.
