About this role

The Opportunity

UserWise is developing a new mobile game based on a globally recognized entertainment IP; blending proven F2P systems with fast, rewarding hybrid-casual gameplay.

We’re looking for a Principal Engineer / Tech Director to lead the technical foundations of the project through prototype, MVP, soft launch, and the early stages of live operations. You will establish the project’s architecture, pipelines, and technical direction, while collaborating deeply with design, art, product, and production to enable rapid iteration and stable builds.

As additional engineers join, you’ll shift toward guiding architectural consistency, mentoring teammates, and ensuring the game scales smoothly through launch and early LiveOps.

This is a high-impact role for someone who enjoys shaping early-stage products, creating clean technical foundations, and empowering others in a small, senior team.

What You’ll Do

Technical Architecture & Engineering Foundations

  • Establish the Unity project architecture, including structure, pipelines, coding standards, and performance expectations.
  • Define the client architecture (data models, game systems, UI structure, asset workflows) to ensure clarity and scalability.
  • Set up the initial CI/CD, automated build systems, and deployment workflows to support rapid iteration.
  • Lead the technical approach for integrating SDKs, analytics, and mobile services, collaborating with engineers on implementation and maintenance.

Hands-On Contribution & Feature Development Support

  • Contribute directly to the game prototype to validate fun, flow, pacing, and core interactions as part of a lean, hands-on team.
  • Collaborate with gameplay and UI engineers to integrate new features using clean, scalable implementation patterns.
  • Provide technical guidance, code reviews, and support to help engineers resolve challenges efficiently.
  • Define technical requirements and patterns for internal tools or content workflows; gameplay/UI engineers extend and maintain them.

Cross-Discipline Collaboration, Execution & Leadership

  • Partner with all disciplines to ensure clear requirements, rapid iteration, and stable builds across milestones.
  • Drive technical scoping, risk assessment, and feasibility planning for upcoming features and LiveOps needs.
  • Collaborate with the Backend Engineer to define integration architecture and data flows, enabling smooth client implementation.
  • Mentor engineers as the team expands, fostering healthy engineering practices and a collaborative development culture.

  • 8+ years of professional game development experience.
  • Strong expertise in Unity (C#) with shipped mobile F2P titles.
  • Proven experience architecting or leading the technical development of a new project from 0→1 (initial concept into production).
  • Deep understanding of mobile performance profiling, memory optimization, Unity build pipelines, and project organization.
  • Experience setting up CI/CD, automated build systems, and deployment workflows.
  • Comfortable defining SDK/analytics/service integration approaches and collaborating with engineers to implement them.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across disciplines.
  • Fluent in English; effective in a distributed international environment.
  • A hands-on technical leader who values enabling others and improving team velocity.

Nice to Have
  • Experience with backend-connected features (ex: Firebase, PlayFab, custom APIs).
  • Familiarity with asynchronous or multiplayer-style features (leaderboards, challenges).
  • Experience building internal tools or Unity editor extensions.
  • Knowledge of addressables, asset streaming, or dynamic content delivery.
  • Interest in AI-assisted workflows for tools, automation, or iteration speed.

  • Help build and launch a new mobile game from concept to global release.
  • Own the technical foundation while collaborating in a small, senior, high-velocity team.
  • Shape the engineering culture and mentor future hires.
  • High ownership, visibility, and immediate impact.
