AI RESEARCH SCIENTIST

INTERNAL TITLE - DATA SCIENTIST

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Robotics AI Lab (RAIL) at UPS is at the forefront of AI research and development, creating innovative solutions to revolutionize the future of delivery. RAIL is seeking a highly skilled and passionate AI/ML Scientist with a strong research or engineering background to join our dynamic team. This role is central to developing and deploying transformative AI solutions, with a significant emphasis on Generative AI applications for our operational systems. You will leverage your expertise in AI/ML, data engineering, and MLOps to tackle complex, large-scale problems that directly impact the efficiency and future of global logistics.

Responsibilities and Duties

• AI/ML Model Development: Design, build, and optimize advanced forecasting and prediction ML models that drive critical business decisions and operational efficiencies.
• Strategic Data Analysis: Conduct comprehensive, large-scale data analysis to uncover actionable insights, identify new product opportunities, and enhance existing solutions.
• Innovative Problem Solving: Develop, validate, and implement novel methodologies to address complex, open-ended challenges within our unique logistics environment.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with engineering, product, and operational teams to brainstorm new ideas, design robust systems, and ensure seamless deployment and performance validation of AI solutions.
• Generative AI Product Development Collaboration: Working with Generative AI team to build the Agentic AI application.

Knowledge and Skills

• Experience: 2+ years of industry or research experience directly related to AI/ML and Data Science.
• Proficiency in Python programming, with experience using relevant AI/ML libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn)
• Demonstrated experience with large-scale data engineering principles and practices.
• Familiarity with MLOps principles and practices for deploying and managing ML models in production.
• Familiarity with Generative AI or Agentic AI
• Experience with cloud platforms, specifically Google Cloud (GCP).
• Education: Advanced degree (Master or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.

• This job is a Grade 20H

• Must be currently located in the same geographic location as the job or willing to self-relocate.
