UPMC Corporate Health Services is seeking a Surgical Navigation and Laser Technician I to support the UPMC Shadyside Hospital location.  This full-time position will work daylight shift.

Purpose:
The Surgical Navigation and Laser Technician I is an entry-level position at UPMC, focused on operating lasers and image guidance systems to support surgical procedures. Working under supervision, this role collaborates with clinical teams, including nurses and physicians, to ensure safe device operation and compliance with regulatory standards across UPMC facilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate lasers and image guidance systems in surgical settings.
  • Directly collaborating with clinical staff including, but not limited to, nurses and physicians when surgeries and procedures are taking place.
  • Participating in the surgical room during surgeries/procedures.
  • Placing and operating navigational tools on patients.
  • Maintaining the fiber optic delivery systems in a surgical procedure.
  • Log activities in case tracking software and Kronos systems.
  • Join on-call rotations and travel to UPMC sites as needed (personal vehicle use may be required).
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and safety protocols.
  • Pursue on-going professional development and continuing education.
  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • High school diploma/GED equivalent and 2 years of relevant healthcare experience OR 
  • Associate degree OR 
  • Appropriate military training program required
  • Previous experience working in surgical services and/or imaging services preferred
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Office
  • Ability to communicate clearly with clinical team
  • Must be able to work in environments where medications are stored (no direct contact with medications).

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
     
  • Act 34 with renewal
