The University of Virginia’s School of Engineering and Applied Science invites applications for a one-year Postdoctoral Teaching Development Fellowship in Applied Mathematics, starting August 2026. This fellowship provides a unique opportunity to gain expertise in evidence-based teaching practices and develop advanced skills in teaching undergraduate mathematics for engineering students at a top-tier R1 institution. This experience will include direct classroom experience guided by mentorship from experienced faculty in the Applied Mathematics Center, scholarly research and professional development through UVA’s Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE).
Fellows will gain mentored experience teaching four coordinated APMA courses during the academic year, primarily in the core sequence (Calculus I, II, III, and possibly other advanced courses). The coordinated courses feature carefully developed materials, giving fellows access to a complete, high-quality course while learning effective teaching and student engagement. This structure allows fellows to focus on instruction and interaction while benefiting from UVA’s collaborative approach to course design and delivery. Fellows will also shadow experienced APMA faculty, engage with the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE), and participate in scholarly and professional development activities.
The appointment compensation will be commensurate with qualifications.
