About this role

The McIntire School of Commerce Help Desk is seeking a student employee to provide Tier 1 IT support and assist with administrative tasks. This position is available immediately, with a preferred Spring 2026 semester start and employment extending through the 2026–2027 academic year. Students primarily work in the Help Desk offices but may be assigned to other areas within the school as necessary. 

Work Locations & Hours

Help Desk – Shumway Hall

  • Monday–Friday: 8:00 AM – 9:00 PM
  • Saturday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Sunday: 12:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Help Desk Annex – Rouss & Robertson Hall

  • Monday–Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Responsibilities


Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing face-to-face customer support
  • Answering phone calls and assisting users
  • Performing basic Tier 1 IT troubleshooting
  • Entering and updating tickets in the help desk system
  • Maintaining and organizing equipment
  • Assisting with general administrative tasks as needed

Scheduling & Commitment

  • Students are expected to work 10–20 hours per week, depending on individual class schedules
  • Flexible scheduling is available to accommodate academic commitments
  • Must be able to work at least one Friday night or weekend shift per month
  • Students are required to begin work the week of August 25 and continue through the end of the semester.
  • A mandatory 2-hour orientation will be held on Monday, August 25.

Qualifications

  • Motivated, punctual, and reliable with a strong sense of responsibility
  • Ability to adhere to assigned schedules and follow established policies
  • Prior customer service and/or basic IT experience is a plus, but not required

Compensation

  • Pay rate: $15.00 per hour

PHYSICAL DEMANDS


This position is primarily sedentary and involves extensive use of desktop computers. Occasional travel may be required to attend meetings or programs.
