Your opportunity:

Under the general supervision of the Director, Finance & Planning, the position is responsible for the processing of business-related transactions for a defined group of Faculty accounts. The incumbent will be required to provide advice to the managers of these accounts on matters pertaining to procurement and to assist them with any budget issues relating to their accounts.

The incumbent will also act as backup to the other Finance Officers in the finance group for general processing duties, and to the Director, Finance and Planning for analytical tasks.

This positions is also responsible for assisting the Finance team with projects, as required.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Verifying the accuracy and completeness of information
  • Applying the University Guide to Financial Management and other applicable policies, agency and regulatory requirements
  • Applying the generally accepted accounting principles to all financial tasks
  • Keeping well-informed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements
  • Generating standard financial reports; preparing budget variance reports; collecting audit information
  • Providing advice and data to support the development of business cases and analytics for departmental initiatives
  • Monitoring department budget to ensure expenditures remain within budgeted allocations
Essential Qualifications:
  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) preferably in accounting/finance or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three years' experience within a University or higher education environment
  • Minimum three years' progressive experience working in a finance department
  • Minimum two years’ experience entering data into Financial Information System
  • Minimum two years’ experience using Administrative Management Systems (AMS)
  • Minimum 2 years' experience processing accounts receivable, accounts payable & expense reimbursements
  • Minimum 2 years' experience preparing budget variance and standard financial reports
  • Excellent communication, analytical, organizational and time management skills
  • Must be able to adapt rapidly from one function to another while maintaining efficiency and accuracy, especially under pressure.
  • Strong aptitude with numbers, analysis and data manipulation and report preparation
  • Keen curiosity and drive to investigate issues and find solutions to areas of question
  • Superior data management, manipulation, reporting and attention to detail skillset
  • Ability to process, observe and make suggestions to help implement best practices
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Excel and Access
