Your opportunity:

As a globally top-ranked department, the DCS must ensure that its spaces, including labs, offices, and classrooms, are maintained at the highest standard to support excellence in research and teaching. This role works closely with the Facilities Coordinator to ensure that all DCS facilities meet the needs of students, faculty, and staff, thereby enabling them to achieve their goals. The position involves hands-on, in-person work in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with a diverse community while managing multiple competing priorities.

The standard schedule for this role is 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, onsite, to ensure spaces are ready for the start of classes each day. Some flexibility, including occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekends may be required for special events.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting routine building inspections
  • Identifying and reporting facility repair and/or maintenance needs
  • Determining logistical details required for internal moves
  • Coordinating and communicating work beingperformed on facilities to minimize disruptions to daily operations
  • Applying established standards to control the distribution of access to designated University spaces
  • Documenting and maintaining standard operating procedures
  • Following rules and procedural instructions to ensure visual appearance standards are maintained
  • Scheduling the setup and takedown of equipment required for events

 

Essential Qualifications:

  • College Diploma (2 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years of recent and related experience providing operations, logistics, or facilities-related support, with some experience in facilities, maintenance,or caretaking work that focuses on maintaining and refreshing labs, classrooms, and offices
  • Experience conducting minor maintenance and other space & maintenance-related activities
  • Experience liaising with contractors and facilities staffto ensure work is completed and tracked
  • Experience conducting inspections, assessing facilities issues, and addressing appropriately
  • Experience coordinating logistics of moves and space setup
  • Experience developing and maintaining standard operating procedures
  • Ability to lift and move moderate-weight items (typically 25–40 lbs)
  • Good understanding of occupational health and safety guidelines and practices
  • Strong attention to detail and reliability
  • Good communication skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision; proven ability to clearly communicate with clients and colleagues regarding maintenance related issues
  • Demonstrated ability to manage conflict, exercise independent decision making, set priorities, and negotiate competing demands
  • Able to solve problems and respond to unanticipated or unusual events quickly and professionally, exercising initiative, tact, and diplomacy


Assets (Nonessential):

  • Basic knowledge of hand tools and building systems is a plus
  • Prior experience and knowledge in preparing office spaces and refreshing labs, classrooms and offices with new furniture and equipment
  • Experience working in an academic department
  • Previous experience in a client-focused environment where there is a need to address client needs with minimal supervision
