The Dalla Lana School of Public Health is a Faculty of the University of Toronto that originated as one of the Schools of Hygiene begun by the Rockefeller Foundation in 1927. The School, which played a critical role in the COVID-19 pandemic response, went through a dramatic renaissance after the 2003 SARS crisis and it is now the largest public health school in Canada, with more than 850 faculty, 1,000 students, and research and training partnerships with institutions throughout Toronto and the world. With $76 million in research funding per year, including more than $31.5 million held at DLSPH, the School contributes to improving population health and health policy and health systems through discoveries and innovation in data science and AI, maternal, child and reproductive health, climate change [response], implementation and improvement sciences, preventable disease through vaccines and prevention through [and] wellness such as with diabetes, comparative health policy, sustainable and equitable health systems, global and Indigenous health, among many other areas.

Your opportunity:

The Centre for Vaccine Preventable Diseases (CVPD) is an interdisciplinary centrethat is hosted by the DLSPH, with members from across several faculties at the University of Toronto. The CVPD’s mission it to increase health and to improve confidence in vaccines and immunization programs through the provision of evidence-based information aimed at communities, health care providers, schools, decision-makers, the general public, and other stakeholders. This will be achieved by sharing relevant evidence-based information that provides a tested, scientific basis for the health benefits of immunization and disease prevention and addressing misconceptions about vaccines through several communication channels including web resources, social media, seminars and in-person meetings and symposia.

As the CVPD Operations Lead reporting to the Principal Investigator. You will lead the operational and administrative aspects of the research program, including and tracking budgets and timelines to ensure the team meets milestones and deliverables, and support efforts to obtain funding. In addition, you will coordinate and support various initiatives and oversee the implementation of strategic plans.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading operational and administrative aspects of the CVPD.
• Liaising with agencies, collaborators, industry sponsors, faculty and other stakeholders regarding funding applications.
• Planning and overseeing the implementation of strategic plans and coordinating tasks for projects and other strategic initiatives with stakeholders.
• Writing grant applications, including conducting a detailed analysis of grant application policies to maximize research funding.
• Drafting funding applications; settling partnership agreements and contract terms and coordinating the implementation of agreements once funding is approved.
• Drafting and submitting documented procedures to the Research Ethics Board (REB) for approval.
• Monitoring, recording, reconciling and reporting on funding accounts for research agreements; Planning and estimating financial resources required for programs and/or projects.
• Scheduling and planning the workflow for the unit, including activities related to the administrative aspects of the research program

Essential Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in public health, microbiology, health science or laboratory science, or an acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
• Minimum four (4) years of relevant research administrative operations experience, including experience working with multi-disciplinary, multi-sectoral health system teams.
• Demonstrated administrative experience, including planning and supporting the execution of initiatives internally for the research team, or for an external audience.
• Experience planning and leading the implementation of strategic plans
• Experience coordinating project tasks with stakeholders.
• Experience engaging stakeholders, including working with health units, public health or hospital-sector partners.
• Experience researching, analyzing and recommending funding opportunities
• Experience with submitting and overseeing Research Ethics Board applications
• Experience with funding applications, both before and after funds are awarded, including experience monitoring, recording, reconciling and reporting on funding accounts for research agreements
• Drafting, editing, and negotiating partnership agreements, specifically with academic centres, and provincial/federal public health authorities
• Experience with material transfer, data sharing, and funding agreements
• Strong communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills and ability to successfully work independently and as part of a team. Ability to learn new skills and learn inputs from multidisciplinary teams
• Excellent organizational skills, time management and problem-solving skills with the ability to meet conflicting priorities and balance multiple projects.
• Effective interpersonal skills required to interact well with internal team members and external stakeholders and maintain effective relationships.
• Sound judgment and decision-making skills, andthe ability to think strategically.
