About this role

Summary:

The Senior Medical Educator provides strategic leadership for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of medical education programs.  This role designs, implements, and oversees systems to measure student learning, assesses program effectiveness and supports continuous quality improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee comprehensive systems for evaluating student performance, learning outcomes, and program effectiveness.

  • Support accreditation-related activities by aligning assessment and evaluation practices with LCME standards. Partner with course and clerkship directors, faculty, and administrators to strengthen assessment and evaluation practices across the curriculum.

  • Provide training through workshops, seminars, online modules, and short courses on educational theory, evidence-based pedagogical methods, and education scholarship. 

  • Lead and mentor staff and students engaged in program evaluation and assessment initiatives.

  • Conduct educational research and innovation projects related to basic science and clinical science curricula.

  • Provide educational expertise to faculty groups and committees, including interprofessional and departmental course committees.

  • Adhere to internal controls and the established reporting structure.

  • Perform related duties as required.

  • Seek external funding for innovative medical education projects, as appropriate.

  • Support the monitoring and maintenance records required for accreditation.
     

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ed.D. or Ph.D. in education, psychology, or a related field plus two (2) years of experience in medical or health professions education or a relevant context.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. 
  • Effective presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in a variety of teaching strategies.
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of professionals.
  • Ability to plan, organize, set and accomplish goals.
  • Ability to analyze/evaluate data and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Ability to organize and present data in a concise manner.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to apply education expertise to adult learners in a medical education setting.
