Purpose

As a LAITS Desktop Support Student Technician Assistant (STA) you will have the opportunity to assist professors all over campus in using their technology. As a Desktop Support STA, you will provide technical assistance on both Mac OS and Windows devices at our walk-up service desks and handle support via phone and online chat. STAs will work collaboratively with other students and full-time technicians to learn on how to provide technical assistance to faculty and staff. This introductory position requires some morning shifts, frequent walking, and a positive customer service attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to faculty and staff customers deskside and from the service desk window or via phone/online chat.

  • Maintain and update customer support interactions and resolutions using established ticketing system and defined procedures.

  • Assist with special projects related to technical support or operations as needed.

  • Transport various equipment across campus.

Required Qualifications

  • Be a current undergraduate or graduate student at UT Enrolled in/completed 6 hours of course work in the spring 2026 semester​.

  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills.

  • Demonstrate basic proficiency with both Mac and PC operating systems.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Punctual and dependable.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with customer service and/or technical troubleshooting.

  • Prior experience with assisting customer via phone or chat.

  • Familiarity with computer hardware troubleshooting.

  • Morning shift availability.

Salary Range

$15.00 Per Hour

Working Conditions

  • Work takes place on the UT Campus.

  • Standard office conditions include use of keyboards.

  • Lifting and moving computers and hardware.
