The referenced pay range represents the first and last step pay rates for this job, as set forth in the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Individual pay will be set in accordance with terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities:

Repairs and maintains buildings and most utility systems and equipment, performing a variety of services and skills, including repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment, machines and facilities.

Under general supervision of departmental administrator, with delegation to appropriate supervisory personnel.

SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION EXERCISED:No formal supervision is exercised. May coordinate the efforts of lower classified trades personnel or students.MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED:Hand and power tools common to the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, tile and other building trades.TYPICAL DUTIES:1.Repairs mechanical equipment by disassembling, replacing components, reassembling, and alignment and adjustment to common tolerances. Usually handles moderately complex items such as blowers, door locks, and similar mechanical apparatus, not involving extensive machining of parts, precise alignment, or special hazards such as toxic refrigerants.2.Repairs certain electrical and plumbing lines, and most types of fixtures and equipment. Checks, traces, and repairs or replaces defective lines, temporarily shutting down local or building service when necessary. Repairs or replaces appliances, sinks, faucets, drains, water closets, most fixtures and equipment such as certain electric motors, switches, outlets, etc., not involving complete and extensive rebuilding, installation or modification of service such as work that would be performed by licensed trades personnel.3.Repairs or replaces certain components of buildings such as tile, doors, walls, windows, stairs, roofs, woodwork, and cabinets. May construct temporary partitions. Maintains heating systems and balances systems using controls and valves.4.Receives and answers service requests and trouble calls. Initiates requisitions for spare parts, supplies, and special services, and maintains a stock of commonly used spare parts.5.Works from blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams, and from verbal instructions.6.Keeps records and makes reports of daily work.7.Compiles with safety regulations of the University and of local, state and federal agencies.8.Maintains cleanliness of work area and insures that tools and equipment are kept in good working order.9.Performs other duties requiring comparable skill and responsibility as directed.QUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma plus 2-4 years experience in a mechanical/building trades or related environment to provide the necessary experience to perform the above tasks; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to read and write English and make mathematical calculations.Depending upon functional area, may require a valid motor vehicle operator's license and the ability to operate vehicles in a troublefree, safe, and skillful manner
