JOB SUMMARY/SPECIFIC RESPONSBILITIES

Issue Area Responsibilities (70%)

Immigration and Resettlement

  • LTLT
    • Lead Linking Through language and Technology (LTLT) programming for students and staff
    • Plan volunteer recruitment and support sessions
    • Liaise with University staff to support participants, outline expectations
    • Develop training resources as needed and in consultation with language learning professionals
    • Develop regular communications and reminders for all participants
    • Meet regularly with CCE staff for support, training, and planning
    •  plans

  • Advising & Tabling for Immigration and Resettlement Issue Area
    • Advise students interested in the immigration and resettlement issue areas, providing information on how to successfully engage with community partners and initiatives
    • In collaboration with CCE staff, develop a regular rhythm for tabling to promote volunteer opportunities in your issue areas
    • Attend volunteer fairs to promote your issue areas
    • In collaboration with CCE staff, determine potential opportunities for developing immigration and resettlement-based trainings (e.g., trauma informed care), mentoring trainings (e.g., providing mentorship closure) and/or resources that provide needed context (e.g., panels focused on immigration and resettlement policy).
    • Reach out to student organizations and offer support as needed

  • Communications & Outreach
    • In collaboration with the communications team, develop a communications plan (paper flyers, Dflyers, SpiderBytes, routine newsletters, etc.) to promote opportunities for students to engage with the education social issue area

CCE-wide Responsibilities (30%)

  • Support the drop-in advising process for all civically engaged students, ensuring advisees receive issue-area specific information, as well as proper follow up and logistical support. This involves serving at least one shift as a peer advisor during CCE drop-in advising.
  • In collaboration with CCE staff and fellow program associates, support conceptualizing, planning, and executing CCE-wide, educational meetings
  • Serve on the student-fund review committee
  • On occasion, participate in ad-hoc projects such as data analysis (e.g., create, interpret and report survey results, and support assessment efforts)
  • Communicate student concerns to CCE staff

Experience/Skills/Qualifications

  • Prior volunteer experience with nonprofit programming
  • Previous experience facilitating meetings and/or leading group discussions
  • Previous experience in event planning and proficiency in written communication (mostly email)
  • Strong written communication skills and efficient use of time required
  • Attention to detail, task-management, and organization skills required

Work Hours

  • Office hours are based on the student’s schedule (approximately 6 hours a week)
  • Attend all relevant CCE meetings
  • Attend all weekly staff meetings
  • Willingness to work some hour over winter breaks and late summer (July/August) to ensure pre-semester onboarding is coordinated appropriately
