About This Opportunity 

The Faculty of Business, Economics and Law is seeking two highly motivated and experienced events professionals to join the team in fixed‑term roles supporting parental leave arrangements. As Senior Events Officers, you will collaborate with a dynamic team of marketing, communications and events specialists to deliver high‑quality, engaging events for both internal and external stakeholders. Please indicate your preferred contract length (6 or 12 months) as part of your application.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Plan and deliver high-quality events across online, on-campus and hybrid formats, including workshops, seminars, webinars, summits, networking events and award evenings, ensuring alignment with University objectives and a seamless end-to-end experience.

  • Build and manage strong stakeholder relationships by liaising with academic and professional staff, senior external presenters, industry partners, alumni, suppliers and senior University leaders to support the successful delivery of events.

  • Manage event logistics, suppliers and budgets including procurement of venues, catering, AV, staging and equipment; monitoring budgets; ensuring compliance with UQ policies; and meeting risk, safety and sustainability requirements.

  • Develop event content, reporting and communications by preparing event documentation and reports, managing website and social media content, handling data in line with legislative requirements, and collaborating across BEL Marketing and Engagement, Future Students, and UQ Marketing & Communications on integrated initiatives.

About You

  • Relevant qualifications in event management, communications, marketing or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or training.

  • Proven experience in planning and delivering events, including online engagement activities, webinars and hybrid formats.

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and customer service skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with students, internal stakeholders, clients, suppliers and external partners.

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including negotiation and relationship-building capabilities, and the ability to navigate complex or time-critical situations.

  • Demonstrated organisational and workload management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks, work independently, meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.

  • A proactive and collaborative approach, showing initiative, sound judgement and the ability to contribute effectively within a high-performing team environment.

  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality, with a strong work ethic and enthusiasm for delivering exceptional events.

  • Experience in reporting, evaluation and budget management, supporting effective planning and continuous improvement.

  • Strong digital capability, including experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite and/or event management platforms such as EventsAir, Eventbrite, Vision6 or Canva.

Travel and After-Hours Duties

The Senior Events Officer will be required to work after hours and on weekends from time to time. Some travel may be required.

Appointment to this role is subject to the successful completion of relevant pre-employment checks, which may include verification of the right to work in Australia, qualifications and criminal history checks. This may also include checks relating to gender-based violence matters or other integrity and conduct requirements.
