About This Opportunity  

Bring your cloud, automation, and infrastructure expertise to this impactful role supporting UQ’s secure and highly available computing environments. As part of the ITS Infrastructure Build and Delivery team, you’ll design, implement, and maintain innovative virtualisation, cloud, and network solutions across both on-premise and public cloud platforms. This is a great opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and contribute to the delivery of robust, scalable, and secure IT services that underpin UQ’s teaching, research, and enterprise operations.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining virtualisation, cloud, converged infrastructure, automated provisioning, and network solutions.

  • Providing advanced technical support across Microsoft, Unix, and cloud environments to ensure system reliability and performance.

  • Contributing to automation initiatives and continuous improvement through scripting, configuration management, and documentation.

  • Ensuring compliance with UQ’s Cyber Security Policy through proactive and secure system management practices.

About You 

You’re an experienced infrastructure professional with strong technical depth, a proactive mindset, and a passion for delivering secure, reliable, and automated IT services in a complex enterprise environment. You enjoy problem-solving, collaborating with technical peers, and driving innovation through automation and modern infrastructure practices.

You will bring:

  • A relevant degree in IT or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Proven expertise in virtualisation, cloud, converged infrastructure, automated provisioning, and network technologies.

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, and automation tools such as Puppet, Ansible, or Jenkins.

  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, NodeJS, PHP) to streamline and automate system operations.

  • Strong systems administration experience with Microsoft and/or Unix environments.

  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.

  • Demonstrated experience working in large enterprise IT environments and managing change effectively.

  • A commitment to collaboration, continuous improvement, and delivering high-quality outcomes.

Desirable:

  • Design and deployment of wireless networks, working with wireless technologies such as Ekahau Sidekick.

  • Experience with storage and backup technologies (e.g., Dell Isilon, Cohesity, PowerProtect).

  • Exposure to Cisco networking environments and relevant experience with cisco management platforms such as Cisco DNA, ISE and Catalyst Centre.

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, criminal check, etc.
