About this role

The University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in theoretical particle physics, supervised by Dr. Samuel Homiller as part of the Pittsburgh Particle Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology Center (Pitt PACC). The group has a broad range of interests across particle phenomenology, including models of physics beyond the Standard Model and their signatures at colliders or low-energy/precision experiments, and connections to astrophysics and cosmology.

This position will be responsible for performing research in particle theory, interacting with other members of the Pitt PACC (particularly the graduate students, postdocs, and visitors), organizing external seminars, and assisting in organizing/running the annual Phenomenology Symposium hosted every Spring at Pitt, as well as topical workshops in the Pitt PACC on topics related to particle theory.

The position is funded initially for one year and housed within the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Pittsburgh working with Dr. Samuel Homiller and collaborators. The position may be extended for up to 3 years total, pending funding and performance. The expected start date is on or around September 1, 2026.

Required:  A PhD in theoretical particle physics or a closely related subject (must be completed by Summer, 2026).

Preferred:  A demonstrated track record of original research in particle theory.

To apply:  Please apply within the Talent Center job posting through join.pitt.edu, and email Dr. Samuel Homiller at [email protected] with email subject “Postdoc Opportunity” and the following combined as 1 PDF attachment:

  • A brief cover letter describing your career goals, experience, and interest in the position.

  • A research statement (2-3 pages) describing your interests

  • Resume/CV including contact information for three professional references
