Job Description Summary

Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Manager Research Project B will conduct research in the field of materials characterization. The research involves the characterization of thin film semiconductor devices, nanoparticle systems, and materials utilized in energy storage applications. In particular, the Manager Research Project B will perform the following tasks: materials characterization using electron and ion microscopy, and data analysis utilizing advanced machine learning methods. Other duties include overseeing and training group members on equipment and methods, developing research proposals, overseeing the budgets, supervising and maintaining equipment, co-teaching classes in some semesters, and overseeing laboratory organization and safety. Further responsibilities include coordinating workflow and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Additional duties as assigned.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct hands-on materials science  research in the lab; present research at internal group meetings, events, external conferences, and workshops; write and publish research articles; co-write reports for funding agencies with the PI; review submitted manuscripts for journals; and present work at project meetings with collaborators and funding agencies.

  • Train students and postdocs to minimize time for lab onboarding and familiarization. Support and supervise students and postdocs to maximize research productivity and rigor.

  • Search for research funding opportunities; proofread, edit, and write research grant proposals. Oversee the management, usage and distribution of budgets

  • Supervise, maintain and oversee laboratory equipment and its usage. Oversee laboratory organization, safety, materials, supplies, samples, processes, and communications. Recommend and oversee implementation of ideas for improving laboratory function.

  • Co-teach graduate and undergraduate courses during some semesters. Guest lecture for PI as needed.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering or related field and a minimum of three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job’s level.
