About our team | Mō te tīma

Whakaratonga me ngā Whakaritenga-ā-Wāhanga | Divisional Services and Administration is a team of highly skilled professionals responsible for delivering outstanding student and staff experiences through high quality, confidential secretarial and administrative support services. You will be part of a supportive administration division providing administrative services to the rotational, clinically based interprofessional programme of learning for senior health professional students.

This programme has been established in Tairāwhiti (Gisborne) since 2012, in partnership with Te Whatu Ora Tairāwhiti (Hauora Tairāwhiti), primary care and iwi providers, and other tertiary education providers. The key aim of the programme is to bring students together from a wide range of health and social care disciplines, and institutions, to learn with, from, and about each other, to find common ground, learn to function as a team and negotiate disagreement safely and respectfully. By learning inter-professionally, students learn to work together to provide high quality, safe, culturally appropriate, team-based, person-centered care.

The role | Te mahi

We are seeking an outstanding and highly organised Kaiwhakahaere Tari/Administrator-Māori to provide administrative services. As our Kaiwhakahaere Tari, you will be the first point of contact for the University of Otago Tairāwhiti Interprofessional Education programme which is based in Ko Matakerepo (Learning Centre) at Gisborne Hospital.

You will support daily operations by:
•    Interacting with  students, clinical placement staff, community organisations and visitors in an appropriate manner and ensuring students and visitors are welcomed reflecting whakawhanaungatanga, manaakitanga and tautoko.
•    Day to day organisational, pastoral, and educational support for all students on the programme while in the Tairāwhiti area.
•    Teaching administration including student placement timetables, liaising with local health, and social care providers or administrators, community stakeholders, timetable management, gathering and collating information to produce information materials and documents.
•    Administration and coordination support for locally based events for students, and arrangements for hui; visits of manuhiri.
•    Organising the noho marae programme for students.

We are looking for a proactive, people focused professional, with a friendly manner, excellent relationship building and time management skills. You will play a pivotal role in supporting the University's Maori Strategic Framework and Pae Tata plans by fostering a positive environment for both tauira and kaimahi Maori to flourish.

Key skills required include:
•    Proven experience working in a busy administration environment, preferably in health and/or education.
•    A passion for customer service and delivering exceptional service to customers.
•    Proficiency in Te Reo Maori me ona Tikanga, or a willingness to increase proficiency.
•    Committing to uphold the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and demonstrating an understanding and appreciation of Te Ao Maori.
•    Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
•    An ongoing commitment to positive outcomes for our students, staff, clinical placement staff, community organisations and visitors.

This is a fixed term (until 23 December 2026) full-time (37.5 hours per week) position, located in Tairāwhiti, Gisborne.

The appointment range for this role is $69,931 to $74,609, with a top of range $80,285 (pro rata).

Being a local resident of the Tairāwhiti region would be advantageous.
