About this role

Provides technical and instructional support for the simulation operations. Responsible for operating and maintaining simulation and computer equipment to include but not limited to all hardware and software associated with the simulation system, learning management systems, virtual, cadaver and procedural skills simulation. Works in collaboration with department directors, residents, and technicians.

Duties:

  • Supervises and trains all simulation users. 
  • Operates the simulator for all training sessions demonstrating or teaching technical aspects to faculty, residents, and others. 
  • Creates real life cases to demonstrate trauma, wounds, and illnesses. 
  • Participates in faculty orientation regarding simulation training and debriefing techniques.
  •  Maintains all simulation equipment ensuring it is in working condition. 
  • Orders equipment and supplies in a timely manner.  
  • Coordinates with IT Department to maintain technical equipment and provide support if problems develop.
  •  Assists with the creation of new course curriculum and educational materials to provide technical training for users, and evaluation tools.
  • Coordinates daily educational events by organizing and managing the department calendar and reservation process. 
  •  Assists with education-related research efforts to include but not limited to study design, writing and submission of protocols and grant applications, data collection and analysis, and abstract and manuscript preparation and submission for publication.
  • Maintains contact with other simulation facilities, vendors, and manufacturers for assistance with equipment problems. 
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of the position.


Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Health Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Information Technology, Information Sciences, or a related discipline aligned with the specific area of focus), AND:

  • 2 years of experience working with patient care simulation equipment in a clinical, educational, or operational setting such as an operating room, critical care unit, emergency medical services (EMS), or other healthcare environments.

Equivalency/Substitution: Experience or a combination of education & related experience can be considered in lieu of degree. A one-to-one ratio is used to determine the number of years of experience required in place of a degree. 

Skills:

  • Working knowledge of audiovisual equipment and simulation equipment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite to include Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Ability to manage time or have excellent organization skills.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to supervise and train.
  • Ability to multitask, handle stressful situations and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality 
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team worker.

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Physical:
    • Must be able to stand for extended periods, move between different clinical environments, and lift or transport equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
    • Frequent bending, reaching, and manual manipulation of simulation equipment, manikins, and audiovisual systems
  • Environmental:
    • Standard office environment and/or clinical environment.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Active Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist preferred.
