Position Summary
The University of New Mexico (UNM) School of Medicine (SOM) Department of Surgery is seeking a board certified or board eligible urologic surgeon with experience, interest or expertise in Genitourinary Reconstructive Urology to join the Department of Surgery.  This position will be within the Division of Urology.  This position is being recruited at an open rank, open track; salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The UNM Division of Urology currently consists of fellowship-trained and specialized urologists within the fields of oncology, pediatrics, robotics, and renal transplantation.  Surgeons within the division provide full urologic care to a variety of benign and malignant conditions.  This position would work closely with the residency program.  The UNM Division of Urology and Department of Surgery boast a robust infrastructure of services and resources to help achieve academic goals, and leadership opportunities are available.

UNM serves a large, medically complex population and is a consultative resource for the State of New Mexico and the Four Corners region of the Southwest United States.  Outpatient surgical services are provided through the UNM Hospital, UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center, and the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center (UNMCCC), the only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Cancer Center in a 500-mile radius.  The UNM Health Science Center (HSC) is the largest academic health complex in the state of New Mexico and is the only Level 1 trauma center.  It is the state’s only site for urologic residency training and a vast referral network exists for a practice involving urethral reconstruction, buried penis, cancer survivorship, congenitalism and men’s health related procedures.  It is located on the University of New Mexico campus in beautiful Albuquerque, NM, the HSC combines its four mission areas - educations, research, patient care and community outreach - to provide New Mexicans with the highest level of health care.

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications for Position:

  • Medical Doctor or equivalent
  • Board-certified/board eligible In Urology through the American Board of Urology
  • Eligible for medical licensure in New Mexico
  • Eligible for State of New Mexico Board of Pharmacy certification 
  • Eligible for a federal DEA registration
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.
  •  Completion of an ACGME Urology Residency


Preferred Qualifications for Position:

  • Interest and proficiency in Genitourinary reconstructive surgery including skills in urethroplasty, buried penis repair, and urinary diversion
  • Fellowship training in genitourinary reconstructive surgery
  • A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities
