This position will provide primary student supervision over weekends and holiday breaks, as scheduled. They will assist with training new employees and work with student employees to complete the daily care and maintenance of the horse herd. The Weekend Lead Farm Worker will also help maintain the facility and grounds. They will serve as a resource and support for Equine Manager and Assistant Manager.
Duties/Responsibilities
Routine Animal Care (70%)
Routine animal care: a) Student training and oversight b) stall cleaning c) turn out of horses d) feeding e) basic wound care & equine first aid, etc.
Facility Maintenance (25%)
Facility maintenance: a) mowing grounds b) repairing stalls c) claying stalls d) turnout maintenance (e.g., fence upkeep) e) general repairs, etc.
Assisting with facility events and activities (5%)
Assisting in all other activities associated with operating a large equine facility: a) shows b) research c) tours d) student practicums
Requirements
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience with farm work, including working with appropriate animals and/or machinery operation, repair, and maintenance.
Required Licenses & Certifications:
Driver's license and/or a Commercial Driver's License A with a Tank endorsement, as required by position.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Equine experience preferred.
Supervisory experience preferred.
Knowledge of basic mechanics. Ability to operate and maintain tractors, UTVs, and other equipment. Ability to calibrate farm equipment.
Ability to use computers for record keeping and obtaining information.
Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this job, including heavy work with exposure to inclement weather conditions for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to wear and use appropriate personal protection equipment as necessary.
Other Requirements:
Must pass drug and alcohol screening tests as mandated by Department of Transportation agency regulations.

Compensation Pay Range:
$18-20/hour
