About this role

Shift:  Full Time Nights (7p-7:30a), 3 12s/week, requires rotating weekends and holidays
Department: Emergency Services (University Hospital ER, Pediatrics ER, ER Observation)
Compensation:

 

  • Base Pay Range: $34.46 - $51.02 per hour, based on experience
  • Shift Differentials:
    • Additional $3.00 per hour for Core Charge
    • Additional $3.00 per hour for weekend shifts
    • Additional $4.00 per hour for Night Shift
  • Sign-On Bonus: $15,000
    • Note:  Details will be provided during the HR interview. Policy language is available upon request.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Provides clinical patient care within the scope of a Registered Nurse, including assessment of condition, goal setting, and nursing actions to meet the physical, psychological, social, and rehabilitative needs of the patient.

 

Assesses, intervenes, and reassesses patient self-report and symptoms of pain promptly, utilizing an appropriate tool for assessment and reassessment.

 

Demonstrates an understanding of medications regarding their action and side effects. Reports pertinent information to the appropriate individual. Educates patients and support person(s) about medications.

 

Demonstrates the ability to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions in accomplishing goals and intended patient care outcomes.

 

Maintains the standards of nursing care and implements policies and procedures of MU Health Care and assigned nursing unit.

 

Reports pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person (i.e. resident physician, ancillary support teams) and records those observations accurately and concisely.

 

Ensures smooth patient flow and efficient bed management within the unit.

 

Coordinates admissions, transfers, and discharges of patients as needed.

 

Responds to clinical emergencies or critical incidents within the unit.

 

Communicates effectively with healthcare providers and other departments during emergencies.

 

Facilitates effective communication between nursing staff, interdisciplinary team members, patients, and families.

 

Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care plans and achieve optimal patient outcomes.

 

Provides clinical guidance and support to nursing staff, including performance feedback.

 

Serves as a resource for nursing staff regarding clinical issues and patient care decisions.

 

Addresses and resolves patient care concerns and complaints promptly, escalating to the clinical manager or Office of Patient Experience as appropriate.

 

Conducts assigned audits of patient charts and documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.

 

Participates in quality improvement initiatives and unit-based quality improvement activities.

 

Audits adherence to infection control protocols and patient safety guidelines.

 

Participates in unit meetings, committees, and projects to contribute to unit goals and initiatives.

 

Coordinates with nurses and providers in triage to make assignments of incoming patients across available treatment spaces, taking into consideration nurse/provider ratios and readiness and the efficient use of all available treatment spaces and waiting areas.

 

Coordinates with the Core Charge Nurse, Emergency Department to ensure staffing needs impacting patient flow are addressed and mitigated. Ensures visibility and support by rounding throughout all the assigned pods.

 

Ensures smooth patient flow and efficient bed management within the Emergency Department treatment areas through coordination with appropriate providers. Monitor patient wait times and overall length of stay to identify barriers to throughput and care delivery. 

 

Oversees the admissions, transfers, and discharges of ED patients to minimize the time from decision to departure. Support nursing staff in the discharge process and room turnaround. Collaborates with inpatient units to remove barriers to moving patients and ensure quality transitions of care.

 

May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days. 

One (1) year of RN experience.

Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

 


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs. 

This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
