Shift: Monday-Friday, 10am to 6:30pm  
Department: Operating Room MOI 
Compensation:  
  • Base Pay Range:  
    • Surgery Tech: $23.66 - $37.37 per hour, based on experience 
  • Special Pay: Additional $2.50 per hour until February 28, 2026 
  • Retention Rewards: Up to $15,000 
    • Relocation Support: Additional $5,000 if moving from over 50 miles away 
    • Retention Reward (Option 1): $2,000 per year for up to 5 years, totaling $10,000 
    • Student Loan Repayment (Option 2): $2,000 per year toward student loans, up to 5 years, totaling $10,000 
    • Note:  Details will be provided during the HR interview. Policy language is available upon request.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION 
 
  1. Anticipate the needs of the surgical team.  
  2. Assist with the teaching of newly hired technologists and student technologists; Serve as a role model to new employees and other staff members.  
  3. Communicate effectively with patients, staff members, and physicians; Adherence to standards including but not limited to unit and hospital policies and procedures, regulatory standards, and patient safety goals.  
  4. Competent at the unit level.  
  5. Demonstrate appropriate and correct case preparation.  
  6. Establish and maintain a sterile field and ensure the team maintains a sterile environment independently. Apply basic knowledge of instrumentations to several cases. Correct any deficiencies at the case level.  
  7. Perform technical duties involving care, preparation, and maintenance of sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment in the operating rooms to provide a safe and effective environment.  
  8. May complete unit/department-specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.  

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 
 
  • High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired.  
  • One (1) year of experience as a surgical technologist; or completion of an accredited surgical tech program, the MU Health Care Surgical Tech program, or military training may be substituted for the experience.  
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 
 
  • Training and experience in all areas of specialty and Trauma (Level I) call.  
  • Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
