Shift: Monday - Friday, 3 X12's 6:30am to 7pm  
Department: Operating Room University Hospital
Compensation
  • Base Pay Range: $28.52 - $46.52 per hour, based on experience 
  • Special Pay: Additional $2.50 per hour until February 28, 2026 
  • Retention Rewards: Up to $15,000 
    • Relocation Support: Additional $5,000 if moving from over 50 miles away 
    • Retention Reward (Option 1): $2,000 per year for up to 5 years, totaling $10,000 
    • Student Loan Repayment (Option 2): $2,000 per year toward student loans, up to 5 years, totaling $10,000

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION 
 
  1. Retrieve scans and radiology films one day prior to surgical cases. 
  2. Complete surgical rounds with the surgical team.  
  3. Retrieve and review patient treatment plans, tests, diagnostic laboratory, and radiology services and ensure that blood products, IV solutions, and other support services have been ordered as directed by the licensed provider within the established protocols.  
  4. Participate in surgical techniques as appropriate for patient care based on service line needs.  
  5. Assist in the transportation of patients to and from patient care areas. 
  6. Coordinate between departments the movement of patients to anticipate surgery.  
  7. Position patients, prep, and drape patients prior to surgery, and insert and remove indwelling Foley catheters, skin clips, and sutures.  
  8. Assist surgeon in incising and closing, providing visualization of the operative site utilizing appropriate techniques to assist with hemostasis.  
  9. Assist in the collection of patient data and all other relevant data. 
  10. Select and apply appropriate wound dressings.  
  11. May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 
 
  • One of the following: --Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), or --Surgical Assistant - Certified (SA-C) by the American Board of Surgical Assistants, or --Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) through National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants (NCCSA), or --Candidates with a Surgical Tech certification (CST, CORST, or TS-C) must obtain an Assistant certification above within two (2) years as a condition of continued employment in this job classification.  
  • Two (2) years of experience in operating room clinical practice with demonstrated proficiency in peri-operative practice as a scrub and first assistant. 
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 
 
  • One (1) year of educational experience as a preceptor.  
  • Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
