MU Health Care is looking for a dedicated and dynamic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to join our team! DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION 

 

Patient Assessment: Obtain patient medical history and recent history of illness or injury. Perform a physical assessment to determine the condition of the patient.

Using the assessment to implement care and perform on going assessments to gauge the effectiveness of treatments and adjust treatment as needed.

Patient Care: Administer patient care to the extent of University Ambulance protocols for BLS care. Proficient in performing BLS level skills and using equipment such as: spinal immobilization, Hare and Sager traction splints.

Ambulance Operations: Maintain readiness ensuring vehicle are in a state or readiness including being stocked and cleaned. Operate an Emergency Vehicle is a safe manner. Ability to work with in the local EMS system.

ALS Assist: Provide assistance to Paramedic partners. Knowledge of ALS equipment used by the Ambulance Service. Familiarity operating UHC cardiac monitors and applying EKG leads.

Report writing: Prepare written reports that document the details of ambulance calls for service that include accurate descriptions of the patient condition, care given, patient response, and will be a basis for QA/QI and patient billing.

Personal Credentials: Ensure that the EMT maintains all required licenses, certifications, attends mandatory classes, and UHC system requirements without lapsing.

May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

 

EMT licensure by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS).

Chauffeur driver license; class E or higher for Missouri residents.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

 

High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired.

Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs.

This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
