RN-Dialysis Ambulatory

Job Summary:

To provide education to patients and staff. To consult with physicians and nursing staff on a 24 hour basis regarding care of patients on dialysis. To perform job duties in accordance with the medical center's purpose. This job profile may require call subject to the department's discretion.

Education & Experience

Must be licensed as RN for one (1) year. Two (2) years of RN experience in specified area preferred. BSN preferred.

Certifications, Licenses or Registration required:  Valid RN license

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Employees must be able to discern color differences for water testing. Knowledge of hemodialysis and CRRT.  Verbal and written communications skills. Interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patients for dialysis needs.
  • Provides safe and effective dialysis to patients.
  • Interprets lab values for critical levels maintains ability to operate hemodialysis machines, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) and slow low efficient dialysis (SLED)
  • Precepts new employees.
  • Attends federally required inter-disciplinary care committee (IDCC) meetings.
  • Monitors patients for adult dialysis.
  • Monitors CRRT, hemodialysis and all peritoneal dialysis.
  • Audits equipment and coordinates dialysis tech II and LPN IIs.  Performs as charge nurse as needed.
  • Consults with physicians and nursing staff on a 24 hour basis.
  • Serves on at least one nursing council, hospital, or medical center committee, task force, or project team to improve patient care or work area. Demonstrates core standards of exceptional customer service.

Requires constant exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, frequent handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, constant exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, frequent working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional travelling to offsite locations, frequent activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, constant work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, frequent bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, occasional climbing, frequent crouching/stooping, occasional driving, occasional kneeling, constant pushing/pulling, constant reaching, occasional sitting, constant standing, occasional twisting, and constant walking. (occasional-up to 20%, frequent-from 21% to 50%, constant-51% or more)
