The University of Miami Health Systems has an exciting opportunity for a Respiratory Therapist - Registered 1 (U) to work in UHealth Tower.

CORE JOB SUMMARY


The Respiratory Therapist - Registered 1 (U) assists in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with pulmonary disorders. An employee in this position collects and analyzes sputum, blood, and breath specimens to determine levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other gases. The Respiratory Therapist - Registered 1 (U) also measures the lung capacity of patients to determine if there are any impairments.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS


1. Conducts tests, such as electrocardiograms, stress testing, and lung capacity tests to evaluate patients' cardiopulmonary functions.
2. Performs bronchopulmonary drainage and instructs patients on how to perform breathing exercises.
3. Sets up and operates devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators.
4. Reads prescriptions, measures arterial blood gases, and reviews patient information to assess patient’s condition.
5. Determines requirements for treatment such as type, method, and duration of therapy, precautions to be taken, and medications and dosages.
6. Explains treatment procedures to patients to gain cooperation and allay fears.
7. Educates patients and their families about their conditions and teaches appropriate disease management techniques.
8. Monitors patients’ physiological responses to therapy.
9. Maintains charts that contain patients' pertinent identification and therapy information.
10. Inspects, cleans, tests, and maintains respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently.
11. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate from a two (2) year program in Respiratory Therapy is required.

  • Current and Valid State of Florida Respiratory Therapist license is required.

  • Current and Valid BLS/CPR, PALS and ACLS certifications are required.

  • No experience required
