The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Licensed Mental Health Counselor to work at the UHealth campus in Miami, Fl.

CORE JOB SUMMARY
The Licensed Mental Health Counselor works with individuals, families, and groups in treating mental, behavioral, and emotional problems and disorders. This position provides specialized knowledge in substance abuse, domestic abuse, grief counseling, workplace problems, and management consultation.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Advocates for and helps clients gain access to resources while confronting their personal issues.
2. Counsels and provides crisis intervention for patients, including assessment and treatment of behavioral problems.
3. Coaches patients on how to manage ongoing health conditions.
4. Provides therapy to help patients make positive behavior changes.
5. Assists patients and their families through individual, group, and education conferences to understand, accept, and follow treatment recommendations.
6. Evaluates the effectiveness of counseling programs and clients’ progress in resolving identified problems and moving toward defined objectives.
7. Refers patients and their families to specialized treatment programs in accordance with their needs, and monitors and evaluates their progress.
8. Collaborates with other departments to integrate care where needed.
9. Maintains current and appropriate documentation in patient chart.
10. Maintains confidentiality of records relating to clients’ treatment.
11. Acts as a mandated reporter in suspected child abuse cases.
12. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Master's degree in relevant field required

Experience:
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required

Certification and Licensing:
Valid State of Florida Mental Health Professional license required

  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.

  • Communication: Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.
