Join the Centre for Digital Transformation of Health as a subject matter expert in clinical data science and AI. You'll have the opportunity to teach and refine a cutting-edge course that empowers healthcare professionals, data scientists, and researchers. Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Update and Refine Course Materials: Review and enhance existing course content to ensure relevance and contemporary delivery. 

  • Design Workshops and Activities: Develop engaging workshop materials and activities, incorporating feedback and personal expertise. 

  • Facilitate Guest Speakers: Organise guest speakers for workshops, leveraging personal networks and sector knowledge. 

  • Provide Student Support: Address student queries promptly via LMS and email, ensuring a supportive learning environment. 

  • Assess and Feedback: Mark assessments and provide detailed, actionable feedback to students. 

You may be a great fit if: 

You will have a postgraduate qualification in data science and experience in the Australian healthcare system, with the ability to apply AI and machine learning to healthcare data to support educational delivery. 

You may also: 

  • Have a PhD or equivalent professional experience in data science within a healthcare organisation. 

  • Have experience with Australian healthcare data, including retrieval, transformation, and analysis. 

  • Be skilled in applying data science methods, machine learning, and AI to health data. 

  • Be available for evening workshops in 2026 and able to commit one day per week to the role. 

  • Have previous teaching experience in higher education and familiarity with tools like Jupyter Notebooks and Google Colab.

Your new team  Centre for Digital Transformation of Health 

The Centre for Digital Transformation of Health is a cross-disciplinary centre that sits in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, and the School of Computing and Information Systems.  

With a vision of connected healthcare, the Centre aims to address a critical gap in the translation of digital health research, which is clearly needed if the healthcare system is to benefit from research-led advances in digital health. The Centre aims to significantly grow the field of digital health research at the University of Melbourne through creating the right environment for the type of inter-disciplinary, collaborative research that correlates with research excellence and impact to flourish. Through bringing together researchers, educators, healthcare and digital health professionals, patients and the public, the focus on translation of digital health innovations into clinical practice will enable a future where the healthcare system is transformed through digital health innovation. 

The Centre’s strategy is underpinned by connecting the strengths in health and medical research in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, to the strengths in informatics, computing and data science in the School of Computing and Information Systems and across the University to create a collaborative, inter-disciplinary ecosystem that supports translation to real-world research impact in the healthcare system. 

The appointee will work with the innovative Education and Workforce Development team within the Centre for Digital Transformation of Health. This team has been awarded the national ASCILITE Innovation Award and the University’s Norman Curry Award for Innovation and Excellence in Educational Programs for its short courses. Additionally, the team has previously won a high-profile contract with the Australian Digital Health Agency, the federal government agency responsible for digital health in Australia. This tender was to work with CSIRO and HL7 Australia to deliver workforce training essential for national plans to implement modern interoperability standards for healthcare IT (The National FHIR Training Program).
