As a Paediatric Academic Coordinator at Western Health, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of medical education by delivering high-quality clinical teaching and mentoring in child and adolescent health. You will coordinate clinical placements, contribute to curriculum development, and engage in research projects, all while collaborating with a team of passionate educators. Your role will be instrumental in ensuring the success of MD students and advancing the field of paediatric health education. 

Your responsibilities will include 

  • Coordinating and Delivering Teaching Sessions: Lead student orientations, facilitate team-based learning, and conduct clinical skills coaching and assessments. 
  • Developing Clinical Placements: Create and manage clinical placements to align with the child and adolescent health curriculum. 
  • Engaging in Curriculum Development: Participate in curriculum review and development, ensuring alignment with educational goals. 
  • Supporting and Mentoring Students: Provide guidance and mentoring to students, fostering a supportive learning environment. 

You may be a great fit if 

You will be an enthusiastic and committed medical educator, with a clinical paediatric position at Western Health, ready to lead and innovate in paediatric teaching and mentoring. 

You may also 

  • Hold medical registration in Australia or be eligible for it. 
  • Have completed postgraduate training (FRACP or equivalent) in an appropriate specialty. 
  • Possess highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and students. 
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for quality clinical teaching and research. 
  • Have experience in teaching or a willingness to contribute actively to curriculum development.

Your new team – Department of Paediatrics 
The Department of Paediatrics is the flagship representative of the University partnership with the Royal Children’s Hospital, and is co-located with the hospital in Flemington Road, Parkville.   

The Department of Paediatrics is a large department within the Melbourne Medical School. The Department has responsibility for the Child & Adolescent Health component of the Doctor of Medicine course of the School There are 90 academic and professional staff, 488 honorary academic staff, and more than 150 students who are enrolled to pursue research degrees from Honours, Masters and PhD.  Approximately 220 students rotate throughout the year undertaking the CAH clinical studies, and a further 60 students undertake research in the MD Research Project component of the MD course.   In 2021, the total research income for the Department was over $5.86 million (with a further $46 million directed via our research partner Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI), and members of the Department published 1126 peer reviewed publications in 2022.
