Job Description Summary:

The Research Assistant in the Department of Pathology will contribute to ongoing research by performing experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and assisting with the preparation of reports and publications. This position provides hands-on experience in understanding the mechanisms of normal and abnormal blood coagulation, inflammation and vascular biology, and elucidating the pathogenesis of thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TPP), while working closely with faculty and research team members to ensure adherence to study protocols and the accuracy of research data.

Job Description:

Job Duties:

Laboratory Support

  • Assist with setup, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of lab equipment and materials.

  • Support preparation and execution of experiments and sample collection.

  • Record observations and ensure proper labeling, storage, and data backup.

  • Maintain lab cleanliness and adhere to safety protocols.

 

Research Operations & Logistics

  • Assist with study setup, daily operations, ADAMTS13 billing, and project follow-ups.

  • Prepare and organize study materials, including packets, forms, and documentation.

  • Schedule study-related activities and help manage project timelines.

  • Maintain inventory of study supplies and support ordering processes.

 

Data Entry & Documentation

  • Collect, enter, and maintain data in electronic and paper-based systems.

  • Conduct statistical analyses of data sets.

  • Review research documents, such as protocols, data collection forms, Institutional Review Board (IRB) documentation, abstracts, presentations, and manuscripts.

  • Ensure proper documentation and organization of study records, project binders, and data collection forms.

  • Assist with maintaining compliance with institutional and project guidelines.

 

Administration & Compliance

  • Prepare documentation for audits, reviews, or sponsor site visits.

  • Track study milestones, recruitment status, and project progress.

  • Maintain study logs and organize project-related correspondence.

  • Support the Pathology Research and Grants Office team in coordinating meetings, taking minutes, processing reimbursements, and preparing reports.

Required Qualifications

Work Experience:

  • Four years of relevant experience. Education may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field.

Work Experience:

  • Experience working in a research or laboratory setting.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
