About this role

The Radiology Department intends to hire for one position at either the Imaging Technologist classification or Senior Imaging Technologist, based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Please indicate in your cover letter the position you wish to be considered for or indicate both.

Selective candidates eligible for a sign-on bonus up to $10,000.  Limited Time Incentive for Former Employees & New Hires. Moving allowance may be available. Current UI employees are not eligible.

The University of Iowa Health Care department of Radiology is seeking a Senior Imaging Technologist- MRI to perform diagnostic imaging procedures utilizing advanced imaging technology/equipment, explain examination procedures to patients and monitor their status, and instruct students and staff on examination and equipment operations.

Duties Include:

  • Operate, adjust, and manipulate computerized electronic and mechanical components of computerized axial tomographic, angiographic, magnetic resonance systems and multiple modalities of other general diagnostic equipment.
  • Maintain, operate and trouble-shoot and report equipment failures.
  • Instruct trainees, students and staff on equipment operation and safety precautions.
  • Explain examination process to patients.
  • Ensure patients welfare and assist physician with medical procedures
  • Perform patient care techniques including skin preparation, I.V. placement, vital sign monitoring and recording, and basic life support; prepare and administer contrast material to patients.
  • Maintain records and results of examinations and archive computer data.
  • Plan daily, regular and STAT scheduling for efficient room utilization.
  • Participate in on-call coverage.
  • Assist with inventory, ordering supplies, and maintaining quality assurance in accordance with hospital, departmental and clinical unit standards.
  • Participate in phantom, human and/or animal research.
  • Maintain knowledge of technical developments, software updates, and related subjects by attending meetings, continuing education programs, and participation in professional organizations and/or review journals or publications.
  • Perform quality assurance procedures and evaluate systems performance.
  • Instruct and/or evaluate the clinical abilities and performance of Radiology Technology or sub-specialty students on a clinical rotation.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.

Percent of Time: 100%25

Schedule: 4 ten-hour shifts Monday through Friday; 1400-0030. Rotating day off. This position includes holidays, rotations and on call.

Experience Requirements

  • Senior Imaging Technologist: A Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology or other Allied Health Sciences discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Senior Imaging Technologist: Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Imaging Technologist: Requires Successful completion of two-year or other approved program by Joint Review Committee in Radiologic Technology Education is required.

 Certification Requirements (Senior Imaging Technologist and Imaging Technologist)

  • Current certification or eligibility for certification in diagnostic procedures by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required or the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) certificate is required.

Desirable Qualifications for Senior Imaging Technologist

  • Recent work or clinical education experience in MRI.
  • MRI modality training.
  • MRI certification or eligible.
  • Work or clinical education experience in a Level 1 trauma center.

Desirable Qualifications for Imaging Technologist

  • Previous work or clinical education experience in general radiology in a level 1 Trauma center is desired.
  • Recent work or clinical education experience in general radiography is desired.
