About this role

University Housing & Dining (UH&D) is seeking to hire a Plumber. Under general supervision, position applies knowledge and skill at the journey level to install and repair piping, fixtures, appliances, laboratory equipment, and apparatus related to gas, air, steam, water, drainage systems, and heating and cooling systems.  

Job Duties:

  • Installs and repairs sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters and softeners, garbage disposals, sprinkler systems, traps, valves, pumps, meters, coils, laboratory equipment, drains, including cleaning drains, and other related piping and equipment.

  • Tests, installs, and maintains water distribution piping and control equipment, fire hydrants, sanitary and storm sewer systems, gas piping, and related distribution systems equipment.

  • Reads and interprets blueprints and drawings.

  • Maintains records on equipment, inventory, and test reports on code compliant devices. Tracks materials and effort expended on each job assignment.

  • May perform or assist in the performance of the duties of Pipefitter or Insulator.

  • May provide technical support to Facilities Mechanic III or student workers.

  • Responds to calls for emergency repair services. Must be able to report within 1 hour to work location when on call.

Required Qualifications:

  •  Four years of experience in the trade, which may include an apprenticeship.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Customer service experience
  • Skilled in the safe and effective use, maintenance, and storage of plumbing tools and equipment. 
  • Ability to work efficiently in tight spaces and under varying environmental conditions.
  • Capable of maintaining accurate records of work performed, materials used, and inspections completed.
