About this role

The Department of Pathology is seeking a Laboratory Technician II to: under general supervision, performs difficult technical procedures and allied duties related to the function of a service laboratory; maintains laboratory area and equipment. Performs a variety of laboratory tasks related to processing specimens, computer/clerical duties, routine lab maintenance, and supply distribution. This position will be Monday – Friday, 0900-1800.

Duties to include:

·         Accessions, handles, and triages specimens for Surgical Pathology.

·         Uses laboratory equipment.

·         Demonstrates effective communication skills.

·         Follows department and laboratory policies.

·         Prepares reagents and chemicals.

·         Performs other projects and tasks as assigned.

The Department of Pathology is part of UI Health Care, a comprehensive health sciences center that serves Iowa and the region, as well as patients referred from the United States and overseas. Minimum Eligibility Requirements

·         High school plus two years of related laboratory experience, including one year as a Laboratory Technician I or equivalent level experience, or

·         Certified laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification, or

·         Any combination of related post high school education and experience which totals two years.

Desirable Qualifications

·         MLA(ASCP) certification or eligible.

·         Biological science coursework, i.e., Anatomy, Biology, etc.

·         Medical Terminology
