The Department of Rehabilitation Therapies at University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a Pulmonary Rehabilitation Clinical Supervisor / Clinical Practice Leader to join and lead a dynamic, highly collaborative outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation team at the University Medical Center campus. This role offers a unique opportunity to combine clinical expertise with leadership, championing the delivery of exceptional, evidence-based care while making a meaningful difference in the lives of patients striving to breathe easier and live their best lives. The Clinical Supervisor will provide direct patient care while guiding daily clinic operations, evaluating current services, and driving quality improvement initiatives to meet the evolving needs of patients and the organization. The ideal candidate is a motivated clinician-leader who demonstrates strong clinical skills, a supportive and collaborative leadership style, and a genuine passion for helping patients improve function, independence, and quality of life within an academic medical center. Duties to include:

·         To assume responsibility and authority for the ongoing operation of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program.

·         To plan, organize and supervise the treatment of patients referred to Pulmonary Rehab and to supervise the work of the professional and non-professional staff and students to ensure the needs of the patients are met.

·         Develops, implements, and reviews program policies, guidelines, protocols, orders and procedures and reviews with Medical Director.

·         Assures that clinical practice is of high quality and is provided according to established standards. Investigates and resolves problems encountered by patients, families, and other departmental customers.

·         Oversees patient admission and the initial intake and ensures that the individualized treatment plan is implemented and coordinated among the interdisciplinary staff.

·         Be familiar with payer coverage requirements and rules for optimizing reimbursement.

·         Develops quality improvement efforts and measure patient satisfaction.

·         Track program metrics and reports for referral volume, clinic visits and financial reports.

·         Evaluates program effectiveness by developing and implementing ongoing quality improvement monitors. Oversees collection and interpretation of outcomes data for program improvement purposes and oversees the input of data into the AACVPR Pulmonary Rehab Registry.

·         Communicates with Medical Director and Department of Rehab Therapies Director regarding program metrics, patient satisfaction, requests for capital equipment, untoward events, and special program needs.

Educational Requirements

  • Master’s degree in nursing required. If Master is in related field, Baccalaureate in Nursing required.

Experience Requirements

  • Current CPR and ACLS certification
  • Current, valid license to practice nursing in Iowa.
  • 3+ years of clinical nursing experience in cardio-pulmonary nursing.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and experience with:

o   Staff education and development

o   Outcomes based practice and quality improvement.

o   Leading change processes including implementation of evidence-based practice.

  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and collaboration with interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrates team leadership.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-starter and motivated; takes initiative.
  • Proficient in computer software applications

Desirable Qualifications

  • Role models professional and clinical practice
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills and ability to problem solve.
  • Member/active participation in professional organization pertaining to pulmonary rehabilitation; IACPR/AACVPR.
