Summary of Job Duties:

A pharmacist I works under minimal supervision to assess, prepare, dispense and assist in coordinating all day-to-day dispensing functions of the pharmacy in a timely and accurate manner. The pharmacist will use their knowledge, skills and clinical judgment through reviewing orders to ensure safe and effective medication therapy. They will evaluate appropriateness of dose, route and formulation, allergies, medication interactions, monitoring, etc. The pharmacist will have frequent communication with other healthcare professionals as a drug information resource and provide educational information to ensure great patient care. They will report adverse drug events and medication safety events. They will document interventions in the medical record. The pharmacist will work as a team member to efficiently and accurately perform day-to-day work along with any additional tasks or projects to help achieve departmental goals.

A pharmacist I will assist with technician and student supervision/direction as it relates to day-to-day dispensing functions, tasks and job duties to provide timely and efficient patient services. They will assist with prioritizing day-to-day workflow based on immediate need and a rapidly changing workload.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy plus 1 year of experience working as a pharmacist (or pharmacy intern)  in a retail or hospital setting.

  • Certification as a licensed Registered Pharmacist by the State of Arkansas or eligibility for licensure by the State of Arkansas.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a Pharm.D.

  • 2 years of applicable pharmacy experience.


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews and interprets prescribers' orders and detects appropriateness of therapy.

  • Prepares and dispenses medications.

  • Prepares sterile admixtures using proper aseptic technique.

  • Prepares chemotherapy in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.

  • Answers client questions regarding prescription renewal, dosage, and side effects.

  • Serves as a primary or co-preceptor for rotational students; provides formal, in-depth training of students and new staff.

  • Assists with the development of educational materials and in-service staff training.

  • Directs, advises, and instructs staff in the assigned area in all activities related to job duties and functions.

  • Assists leadership in all aspects of pharmacy operations in the area of assigned responsibility.

  • Serves as a liaison between the pharmacy service line and the assigned practice area.

  • Ensures equipment and facilities are used, calibrated, and maintained properly.

  • Promotes a safe working environment by adhering to the UAMS patient safety plan.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
