Summary of Job Duties:

The Department of Rhetoric and Writing at the University of Arkansas Little Rock seeks applications for the position of Assistant Professor (tenure track) to begin August 2026. The University of Arkansas at Little Rock is a metropolitan research university that provides an accessible, high-quality education to a community of diverse learners.
The successful candidate will teach courses in Rhetoric and Writing at the undergraduate and graduate level. The regular teaching load is 9 credit hours (3/3) with a 3 credit hour reduction per semester the first year (2/2). In addition, the successful candidate will have a clear scholarly trajectory in Rhetoric and Writing studies, broadly defined, and engage in professional service.
This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.


Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience

  • PhD in Rhetoric and Composition, Writing Studies, Technical Communication, English, or other appropriate discipline; other terminal degrees considered. ABD with an expected completion of Summer 2026 considered.


Preferred Education and/or Experience

  • Research/experience in writing with digital technologies, ideally in one or more of these areas: UX/usability, digital creative nonfiction, generative AI, or social media

  • Experience teaching in multiple modalities

  • A record of excellence as a teacher

  • An existing scholarly record and/or clear scholarly trajectory in Rhetoric and Writing studies, broadly defined

  • A record of professional service activities


Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in nonfiction, usability, rhetoric, technical writing, and/or composition that may be offered on campus, or in online, hybrid, or hyflex formats

  • Provide service on departmental, college, and university committees as well as service to the community and to the discipline

  • Produce and disseminate scholarly work and/or applied research

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Teaching experience in a college setting 

  • Ability to teach a variety of courses face-to-face and online 

  • Appreciation for the variety of student backgrounds and learning styles and a commitment to student retention and success.
