Summary of Job Duties:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for the Behavioral Health Service Line (BHSL) Center for Addiction Services and Treatment (CAST) Clinic is a specifically trained member of the psychiatry team. The LPN supports the ongoing delivery of care as identified by the multi-disciplinary Patient Management Team. The LPN works under the direct supervision of the Program Manager and indirectly under the direction of the RN.

Employee must successfully complete a UAMS-sponsored conflict management training to identify, prevent, and mitigate disruptive behaviors using methods such as non-escalation, de-escalation, personal protection from physical assaults, and physical alternatives within six months of hire.

The BHSL CAST Clinic is located in the Psychiatric Research Institute building on the main UAMS campus


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program

  • 1 year of nursing experience, psychiatric nursing preferred

  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse License in the State of Arkansas

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to accept and follow written and verbal instructions, ability to communicate following Guest Care guidelines

  • CPR certification (BCLS) completed during probationary period

Job Requirements:

  • Participate in ad hoc research projects to improve performance management and patient care.

  • Maintains organized medical records and fulfills records requests.

  • Develop, communicate, and implement patient treatment plans by evaluating patient well being, reporting any needs to medical staff and explaining treatments and procedures. Provides high standard of care and customer service to patients and families.

  • Ensures comfort and well-being of patients by performing care activities, such as feeding patients, changing dressings and bandages of wounds, and transporting patients from wheelchairs, beds, and gurneys.

  • Assist physicians and registered nurses with providing basic, direct patient assessment. Performs intake exams and heath screenings, monitors vital signs, collect various swabs and specimens, and administers diagnostic tests.

  • Perform other duties as needed.
